Working at Malta Opportunities is rewarding and challenging.  We serve developmentally disabled adults either in their workplace or in their homes.  We assist them to lead independent and fulfilling lives by supporting their daily life skills.  


Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the critical link between MOI and our Consumers.  DSPs who work in our Group Home and in Supported Living may assist with daily hygiene, meals, activities, appointments and outings.  DSPs at our Activity Center assist with similar life skills, but also support our Consumers in their work lives both within and outside MOI

​DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL  - MOI GROUP HOME

​Job Summary
            Monitor and assist Group Home Residents with daily life skills.
 
Primary Functions
  • Assist consumers with daily life skills such as laundry, housekeeping, chores, personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, and toileting.
  • Accurately dispense and document medications.
  • Complete meal preparation.
  • Provide transportation and escort individuals and group to and from the Group Home.
  • Escort consumers on recreational outings and daily leisure activities, as well as overnight trips.
  • Observe consumers for changes in health and behavior.  Report and document any changes.  Provide basic health related treatments.
  • Support and train individuals with leisure activities. Provide interesting and age appropriate activities.
  • Assist consumers with social skills including engaging and modeling conversations and behavior.
  • Encourage, motivate and compliment consumers when they meet their goals, are using appropriate behaviors and skills.
  • Oversee consumer schedules and activities, as prescribed in their plans.  Recommend adjustments as needed, to Group Home Manager.
  • Document and implement Individual programs and objectives as assigned.
  • Complete attendance, program and other tracking sheets accurately and on time.
 
Ancillary Functions
  • Maintain household and supplies lists, and other clerical duties.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide feedback on consumer's progress to Individual Plans and recommendations.
  • Bolster and assist in other departments as needed.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Some experience working with developmentally disabled populations preferred, but not required.
  • Obtain and remain current on Med, first aid/CPR certifications.
  • Must complete developmental Disabilities Orientation Training.
  • Must have valid Driver's License.
 
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, drive, kneel, stoop, reach and bend.
  • Frequently required to lift 10-20 pounds.
  • May be exposed to loud noises and inclement weather conditions.

  • Use straightforward language and discussions at opportune times. Request, do not dictate, a consumer's actions or behaviors.  Be specific and patient.
  • Encourage independence, and completion of tasks at their own pace.
  • Provide a clean and safe working environment.
  • Serve each individual with fairness and acceptance of differences.
  • Provide aid and training for minor hygiene and dressing skills.
  • Keep confidentiality of Client's and MOI business.

Starting wage:  $13.00/ hour

Malta Opportunities Benefits Package

For beginning Full-time Employees MOI offers 3 weeks of PTO (vacation), 2 weeks of EML (sick leave).  

Full-time Employees have the option to participate in a SIMPLE-IRA retirement program, that includes an employer sponsored contribution.

MOI schedules 12 holidays a year.  Group Home Employees, since it is a 24/7 facility, who are scheduled to work an MOI holiday, are paid at time and a half.  

All MOI employees are provided 12 hours of paid training, annually, which includes CPR/First Aid certification.
